North Dakota’s senators have secured USD14 million in funding for the FAA’s UAS Center of Excellence, which is co-led by the University of North Dakota, says a report by Grand Forks Herald. The funds were among a number of appropriations bills announced by US Sen. Kevin Cramer and Sen. John Hoeven on 10 November.
The bills also included USD6 million in research grants for UAS projects conducted at test sites, including the Northern Plains UAS test site in Grand Forks, among other projects.
The bills passed the Senate 82-15 and now go to the House for consideration. If approved by the House without changes it will then go to President Joe Biden for consideration. If passed by the House, the funding will come from the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for the next fiscal year, says Grand Forks Herald.
The senators announced more than USD65 million in funding covering many projects across North Dakota.
