The Airgift Project has announced in a LinkedIn post that it has launched an R&D initiative with CRIAQ to develop operations risk analysis for remotely piloted aircraft systems. CAE, Unither Therapeutic Corporation, Université de Sherbrooke, and CRIAQ are partners in a programme that aims to enhance safety protocols using advanced simulations and the Specific Operational Risk Assessment (SORA) methodology.
Airgift will focus on beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) medical deliveries use cases, with the goal of improving access to critical healthcare in both urban and remote areas.
The project proposes developing a comprehensive data processing pipeline for generating synthetic data from a sophisticated simulation environment of a flight corridor. This includes meteorological conditions, ground infrastructure, airspace traffic interactions and the quality of communication links for drone operation. The system aims to provide three-dimensional visualisation of various events that may occur, and an automated risk analysis that will provide recommendations to reduce risks associated with certain operations.
