Demonstrations of the second phase of integration of U-space technology solutions have recently concluded at the Future Mobility Campus Ireland vertiport, in the vicinity of Shannon International Airport, Ireland, and in close coordination with the Irish Aviation Authority and AirNav Ireland.
The flights were part of the EALU-AER project to demonstrate U-space architecture operations and the integration with crewed air traffic. The project is funded by SESAR Joint Undertaking under the European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility programme.
This second phase included the addition of the Skyler radar surveillance system and an extended line of sight utilising the demo drones’ embedded command and control (C2).
The proposed EALU-AER solution is designed to enable beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) safety operations, acquiring additional surveillance data of non-cooperative air traffic and providing a situational awareness picture that will be available via Collins Airspace Services U-Space Service Provider and CISP (Common Information Service Provider to the different stakeholders involved in the operations.
