ENAIRE beta testing chatbot for drone operations FAQ

Spanish air navigation manager ENAIRE has launched a chatbot service to resolve questions from drone pilots and others. The service is available to all users registered in ENAIRE Planea.

The chatbot is designed to automatically answer frequently asked questions about drone operations and safety studies, aerial work with manned aircraft, aerial sports that require airspace reservations, aerial loops, drone swarms or air festivals, among others.

“Due to the increase in the number of annual operations managed by ENAIRE, the department responsible for the operational coordination of airspace has decided to implement this solution to meet the growing demand of users, which has multiplied by more than 40 in recent years, and with it also the demand for information,” ENAIRE says. “So far in 2024, more than 52,000 drone operations have been coordinated.”

ENAIRE’s general manager, Enrique Maurer, said the chatbot’s launch is “a new milestone in the digital transformation of the services provided by ENAIRE, as it is the first artificial intelligence tool in operation at the entity to improve customer service.”

The agency also believes that this is “a measure consistent with the commitment that ENAIRE is making to help boost the drone operations sector”, an industry in which the state air navigation manager will play a key role as a U-Space service provider and as a single provider of common information services (CSIP).

The chatbot is limited to responding to requests for information related to operations carried out by clients and users who do not belong to the commercial or military aviation sector and who are previously registered in the ENAIRE Planea web application.

The chatbot is currently in beta testing so users need to clear their browsers’ cache and cookies before interacting with the chatbot, to ensure that the latest updates are loaded correctly, avoiding possible display or operation errors.
