HCA Airport begins offering fast-track to BVLOS testing

The UAS Denmark Test Center at H.C. Andersen Airport is now giving businesses the opportunity to test their smaller drones on beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations.

This development is the result of a partnership with consultancy firm Scandinavian Drone Solutions (SDS). Together, they have streamlined the process, allowing BVLOS operations with smaller drones in weeks, improving on the normal timescale of up to nine months.

SDS recently received a Light UAS Operator Certificate, which permits other businesses to operate under SDS’s approval for drones with dimensions of up to three metres.

Michael Larsen, Head of UAS Denmark Test Center, said the opportunity is “quite unique and is not systematised in the same way elsewhere”. SDS Chief Operating Officer, Jens Rahbek said he expects the collaboration will attract more drone manufacturers to H.C. Andersen Airport because of the new process that enables them to quickly validate and collect data on their UAS, and consequently provide faster feedback to their developers.
