SkyDefense develops eVTOL drone interceptor

SkyDefense LLC has developed an AI- enabled eVTOL interceptor to counter hostile drones. CobraJet is an autonomous tactical battery-powered jet that is designed to detect, track, identify and neutralise enemy drones at long distances and at high speed (200+ mph).

CobraJet has a carbon fibre monocoque airframe and is equipped with thrust vectoring nozzles for manoeuvrability. CobraJet can be armed with VIPER air-to-air rockets with patent-pending PYTHON electroshock payloads and is capable of neutralising kamikaze drones and then returning to its base to be rearmed. The system features an AI-assisted flight controller/autopilot, day/night camera, and inertial sensors for autonomous flight. An AI-powered operating system analyses the data from the CobraJets for review and maintains an operator-in-the-loop in the decision chain.

SkyDefense says multiple CobraJets can be launched from mobile platforms such as a truck, ship or another aircraft. The system is designed to operate in contested electromagnetic environments using ‘jam-proof’ radios and GPS receivers. Satellite communication (Starlink) is being considered to allow CobraJets to operate even more effectively in electronic warfare environments.

CobraJet and its mission control platform can be integrated into other C2 systems but can also operate as a standalone multi-layer C-UAS system with CobraJets distributed at a distance around the protected area with SkyDefense’s Distributed Area Defense System.

CobraJet will be available by the second quarter of 2025.
