The United States Department of Defense has announced new funding for the counter-uncrewed aerial systems (C-UAS) fused air picture programme.
The project is one of five to each receive funding of USD10 million, which will be awarded to “small, non-traditional defence contractors”. The funding awards are part of the department’s Accelerate the Procurement and Fielding of Innovative Technologies (APFIT) pilot programme, which started in Fiscal Year 2022 and provides procurement funding for innovative projects that have completed development and are ready to transition into operational use.
The announcement was made by Heidi Shyu, Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering at the Reagan National Defense Forum on Saturday. Shyu did not disclose the companies that would be receiving the funding.
