Phoenix Air Unmanned and Shell complete offshore BVLOS operation

Phoenix Air Unmanned, LLC (PAU) and Shell Pipeline Company (SPLC) have successfully completed a remotely piloted aircraft operation with flying offshore cargo delivery proof-of-concept flights under US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) approvals.

William E Lovett, PAU Managing Director said PAU contracted with SPLC for these research and development flights using a 192-pound turbine-powered SwissDrones SDO50V2 helicopter. The aircraft flew 38.5 miles cruising at 40 knots from SPLC Gibson Terminal, Louisiana, and landed on Ship Shoal 28 in the Gulf of Mexico. The SwissDrone SDO was refueled and flew back to SPLC Gibson.
