Propeller Drones, Airwayz and FlightOps collaborate on USD7M BVLOS contract

Airwayz has been chosen by Propeller Drones to execute its USD7 million Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) contract to conduct autonomous uncrewed aerial system (UAS) operations, including inspection of electrical infrastructure. The drones will operate on AI-approved routes beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS).

Propeller Drones collaborated with FlightOps to enhance AI flight capabilities to meet the IEC’s needs and address regulatory concerns. Airwayz has been enlisted to provide an uncrewed traffic management (UTM) system capable of managing large areas and multiple fleets. It is designed to integrate weather and location data to minimise operational overheads and is capable of rerouting multiple uncrewed vehicles simultaneously in case of an incident.

The project marks the first government of Israel approval for drones to operate via a pre-approved UTM system.  The collaboration also enables the three organisations to apply for tenders and regulatory approvals as a single unit, both locally and globally. The companies say that the cooperation across different geographies and sectors will allow organisations to reduce operational risks by using drones to conduct inspections in otherwise hazardous locations.
