Egyptian Navy selects Safran threat sighting system

Safran will equip 10 Egyptian Navy offshore patrol vessels with optronic sights and navigation systems. NVL Egypt, a joint venture between Lürssen and the Government of Egypt, has selected Safran’s VIGY 4 optronic sights and Argonyx inertial navigation systems.

VIGY 4 is a compact, stabilised, long-range panoramic observation and sighting system for detecting, identifying and tracking threats. It is suitable for operations in reduced visibility, in the dark and in difficult weather conditions, through fog for example, due to a SWIR (Short Wave InfraRed) channel. The VIGY 4 sight can also drive small and medium-calibre weapons.

The Argonyx inertial navigation system is capable of operating in an environment devoid of satellite navigation signals (GNSS-denied).

These systems will be installed on vessels to be constructed in Egypt by Alexandria Shipyard.
