Thales launches new coastal surveillance system

Thales has introduced a modular coastal surveillance system which includes lower altitude airspace protection.

CoastShield combines a series of sensors to provide constant monitoring and early detection and tracking of even small targets. It is designed to support coastguards and maritime authorities in detecting and responding to threats sooner and more effectively, promoting collaborative decision-making between civil and military entities.

CoastShield includes the long-range CoastWatcher coastal surveillance radar, which includes an Automatic Identification System receiver that is able to transmit large volumes of data to the Control Centre. Other equipment includes radio systems, long-range electro-optical sensors and a video management system that allows for the management of streams, such as camera selection and recording.

Aerial drones, sonobuoy, along with complementary tactical systems such as satellites and other requested sensors, can be integrated into CoastShield. The maritime Control Centre then merges all data collected from the various sensors. Its open architecture also allows the integration of other data from forces’ headquarters. The Control Centre can be combined with artificial intelligence capabilities to simplify the large amount of complex data and accelerate the classification process.
