6G drone project completes first test in Netherlands

Drone Delivery Services and partners have been working on the development of smart 6G antennas and software, primarily in the Netherlands and the European Union as part of a Future Network Services Nationaal Groeifonds project.

The consortium held its first test day this month in Groningen following field research and obtaining the necessary European Union Aviation Safety Agency approvals.

In a LinkedIn post, co-owner of Drone Delivery Services, Lars de Kloet said the test was a “successful, operational step one” where much was learned. “We have a good starting point for the following steps towards developing reliable 6G everywhere.”

He said that the next challenging objective is flying 10 kilometres and 17 kilometres beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS), at different heights and from a control room. “This is an intermediate step in our roadmap towards flying 30+ kilometres in the North of the Netherlands.”
