Northern Plains UAS Test Site selected for FAA’s Radar Data Pathfinder programme

The Northern Plains UAS Test Site (NPUASTS) has been selected as the first participant in the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Radar Data Pathfinder programme. The initiative is focused on the safe integration of uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) into the US National Airspace System.

“NPUASTS will receive raw, unfiltered radar data—a significant advancement in providing sensitive yet crucial information for detect-and-avoid (DAA) capabilities and Vantis UAS services,” Erin Roesler, NPUASTS Deputy Executive Director, said in a LinkedIn post

Roesler said the test site is entering the final stages of interagency clearance, and is working to establish a formal agreement that makes NPUASTS a pathfinder between the FAA and UAS stakeholders.

As one of seven FAA-designated UAS Test Sites, the NPUASTS is charged with innovating, testing, and advancing uncrewed aerial technologies. Vantis is North Dakota’s statewide UAS beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) system.
