Globe UAV has announced on LinkedIn that its ZERC fixed-wing VTOL drone has received German Federal Aviation Office approval for flights over urban areas beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS).
This move adds to the company’s approval for BVLOS flights over inhabited areas with its MultiCopter drone, which was given in 2022.
ZERC has a takeoff weight of 25kg and is designed to cover distances of up to 200 km on battery power or up to 500 km as a hybrid. It features six hover motors and a parachute system. It is controlled via the mobile network (5G/4G/3G) using the SkyGate ground station, which also handles the operation, including maintenance, flight preparation and weather documentation.
The approval meets the European Union’s SAIL III (Specific Assurance and Integrity Level) for drone operations. SAIL III indicates a medium risk level, where specific measures are required to ensure safety.
The company has listed medical transports, monitoring of wildfire areas, and corridor inspections as potential BVLOS applications with ZERC.
