Ukrainian drones have struck the Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft system manufacturing facility in the Russian city of Tula, according to the Ukrainian defence department.
“A local Telegram channel reported the explosions in Tula,” said the ministry in a press statement. “On the morning of January 21, 2024, drones attacked the Shcheglovsky Val military plant. The plant manufactures Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft systems. The systems manufactured by Shcheglovsky Val are provided for the Russian Armed Forces as well as for exports. In addition to anti-aircraft missile and gun systems, the plant also manufactures other military products, such as guided weapons, air defense systems, and more.
The Telegram channel referenced in the report is Ukraine’s Militarnyi Videonews.
“Old models of military equipment are also being modernized at the company’s facilities,” said the defence ministry. “The company’s products have been used in the full-scale war in Ukraine since 2022. According to local residents, they’ve heard the sounds of flying drones. It was also reported about the operation of air defense systems deployed in the region.”
