Denmark to strengthen Arctic and Atlantic defence/surveillance with drones and C-UAS systems

Denmark has reserved 2.74 billion Danish crowns (USD400 million) to strengthen surveillance and intelligence in the Arctic and North Atlantic with long-range drones and new air defence assets, as part of a wider framework agreement to revamp its defence and meet NATO goals, according to a report from Reuters.

The country plans to spend 13 billion Danish kroner (EUR1.7 billion) on air defence and recruitment and retention of employees, as part of its recent 150bn kroner defence settlement.

The country is responsible for security and defence of Greenland and the Faroe Islands.

In October 2023 The Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) signed an agreement with the Netherlands Defence procurement agency COMMIT (Commando Materieel en IT) for the acquisition of five Thales Ground Master 200 Multu-Mission Compact radars. The country also recently announced plans to equip its armed forces with a new mobile short-range air defence system based on Rheinmetall’s Skyranger.
