Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, said his country would take out Russian drones and missiles over Ukraine before they stray into Polish airspace, if NATO would support the action.
Tusk was speaking to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at a briefing in Warsaw today where the two parties signed a security agreement.
Ukrainian news outlet Censor.NET shared a video of the briefing and reported Tusk as saying: “We have been talking for a long time about an idea that was born in Poland – about the idea of NATO’s response to aerial attacks, that are headed in the direction of Poland and are still within the territory of Ukraine. To try to shoot them down without waiting for them to fly into NATO territory, and even over Ukrainian land. And it seems absolutely logical.”
To do so, Tusk said Poland would need the “unequivocal cooperation” of NATO. “We are open to this,” Censor.NET reported Tusk as saying. “Logic shows that it would be much more effective. But we are under no illusions that this is an easy decision. Therefore, in the document we have written down the desire, the need for such a conversation. We will include allies from other NATO countries in this conversation.”
Further details of the security agreement between the two nations are yet to be disclosed.
