German newspaper Bild reports that the country is bolstering its national security efforts at its borders and internally in preparation for the Euro 2024 European football championships this summer.
Bild quotes the head of Germany’s federal police union, Andreas Rosskopf, as saying aerial drones are becoming “one of the biggest problems”. Rosskopf has called for “a comprehensive, nationwide flight ban for drones throughout Germany before, during and shortly after the European Championships.”
Bild also spoke with security policy analyst Nicolas Stockhammer of Danube University Krems, who advised comprehensive airspace control for the European football championship, noting that terrorist groups could use commercially available drones or even military hardware captured from the battlefield.
